2012 Ford F-150 Lost Key Replacement: A Flip Key and a Spare

This 2012 Ford F-150 came with a straightforward problem: the owner had lost every key. There was no working key available to copy, so the job involved restoring a usable key and completing the programming needed to get the truck back to normal use.

I made two keys for the customer: a flip key with remote Lock/Unlock buttons and a standard spare. That gave the owner an everyday key with remote convenience, plus a second working key to keep separately.

Making a replacement without the original key

For this job, I made the standard spare using the truck’s door lock cylinder. With the original key missing, the lock provided the basis for restoring the mechanical key instead of duplicating an existing blade.

Cutting and programming were both part of the work. A finished blade was only one part of the result; the replacement keys also needed to work with the vehicle. I completed the programming and confirmed that the keys worked.

A remote flip key for daily use

The flip key combined a folding blade with buttons for locking and unlocking the doors. I checked the remote functions as part of the completed job: Lock and Unlock both worked.

The standard spare served a different purpose. It gave the customer a second working key without relying on the same remote key for every situation. The customer received both keys, rather than leaving the job with only one replacement.

The completed result

By the end of the job, the F-150 had two working replacement keys and functioning remote locking and unlocking on the flip key. Everything worked as intended, and the customer was happy with the result.

After an all-keys-lost job, I recommend keeping the spare somewhere separate from the everyday key. Two keys on the same key ring can disappear together; a separately stored spare is more useful when the main key goes missing.
